Kim Jong-un gives the evil eye

This article contains excerpts from party newspapers in the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK). The articles have been published from August through today, September 6th, 2017.They are word for word and not altered in any way. The source and date of the article are shown at the beginning of each excerpt.

Let’s start with the “interesting tidbits” mentioned in the sub-heading above. Over the past two weeks N. Korea has been celebrating the 57th anniversary of Kim Jong Il’s start of “Songun Revolutionary Leadership.”

Of course, Kim Jong Il is the deceased father of Kim Jong-un. Songun is the very base of the DPRK’s state of military preparedness. It’s a hardline policy that means the military’s needs have absolute priority over any affairs of state and allocation of resources. Basically that means the military gets fed and all supplies and equipment it needs before anyone else does.

What’s interesting is the list of countries that sent congratulatory messages and gifts to Kim Jong-un and the DPRK during the Songun Celebration. The gifts and congrats came from: Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad, Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari and Palestinian ambassador Ismail Ahmed Mohamed Hasan. These gifts were acknowledged by all of the DPRK’s news outlets. Syria and Palestine aren’t real surprises, but Nigeria wasn’t on my radar as far as N. Korea is concerned. You learn something new every day.

Now the fun part. Or scary part, depending on how you look at it. Here’s what the DPRK is telling its people this week after the missile launch over Japan and the H-Bomb test:

* – you will see the term “Juche” in some of these excerpts. Literally translated it means “self reliance.” It’s part of the ideology that N. Korea should build itself into a country that can exist comfortably without any help from the outside. In that way the country would no longer be affected by sanctions from any other country.

(Naenara News Outlet 09/05/2017) — “The perfect success in the H-bomb test for ICBM that shook the world is a stern declaration to the US imperialists.

Although the enemies resort to sanctions and blockade against our Republic, they will neither check nor prevent the vigorous advance of our people who are struggling to attain the final goal of completing the state nuclear force.

They are well advised to clearly see our ever-growing strength and the appearance of Juche Korea.

If they run amuck rashly losing their senses, we will deliver merciless blows to the aggressors with the nuclear sword of justice strengthened in terms of both quality and quantity for defending the national dignity and sovereignty.”

(Korean Central News Agency 09/06/2017) — article written by an official from the Dept. of Science

“The successful H-bomb test is a remarkable demonstration of our self-development-first spirit and a manifestation of the tremendous national power the enemy cannot calculate and analyze.

Picturing to myself the U.S., the cursed state of aggression, being submerged in a sea of fire by our H-bomb-loaded ICBM for its slightest provocation, I can not repress my excitement.”

(KCNA 09/06/2017) — “thanks to the energetic guidance and tireless devotion and efforts of respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un that the DPRK could emerge a nuclear weapons state of Juche, a world military power.

The unprecedented feats for building the nuclear force performed by him, who has won victories through successive strong attacks on the U.S. styling itself the “only superpower” and its vassal forces before they come to their senses, will shine forever along with the victorious advance of the Korean revolution, they said.

The invincible revolutionary Paektusan army will put an end to the destiny of the gangster-like U.S. imperialists through the most merciless and strongest preemptive strikes if they and the hordes of traitors finally ignite a war, faulting the entirely just self-defensive measures of the DPRK for bolstering its nuclear deterrent, they stressed.”

(KCNA 08/09/2017) —  “It is a daydream for the US to think that its mainland is an invulnerable Heavenly kingdom.

The US should clearly face up to the fact that the ballistic rockets of the KPA Strategic Force are now on constant standby, facing the Pacific Ocean and pay deep attention to their azimuth angle for launch.

It should make a proper option so as not to regret today in the future.

It should immediately stop its reckless military provocation against the DPRK so that the latter would not be forced to make an unavoidable military choice.”

(KCNA 09/05/2017) — “The U.S. is terribly mistaken if it thinks it can frighten or persuade the DPRK by talking about “all options” on the table and imposing the toughest sanctions and pressure upon the latter in every dimension of political, economic and military fields.

We will respond to the heinous sanctions and pressure of the U.S. with our own mode of counteroffensive and the U.S. shall be held totally responsible for all catastrophic consequences to follow.

The U.S. should not forget even for a moment about the presence of the DPRK, the full-fledged nuclear power in possession of ICBM as well as A-bomb and H-bomb.”

A final thought here…obviously this is but a tiny fraction of the stories being published by the party, and just like any other newspaper in the world there is a “comment” section available at the end of each story. To this day I’ve never seen a comment posted by anyone in N. Korea. Gee, I wonder why…
